Are Internet Service Providers Blocking VoIP?

    October 16th, 2008

Having used VoIP problem free for for a good few years I was confused as to why out of nowhere I had been having lots of issues. Sound quality has massively deteriorated and latency issues have become markedly noticeable. Users on VoIP online forums in the US and other countries, including Spain and Mexico, have been noting similar problems since last year. For a while VoIP might seem like a good deal for the average person, more established interests in the telecoms industry view it differently - and are trying to make a stand.

    Consultation

knowledgeable of what has happened elsewhere the UK telecoms regulator Ofcom took the decisive step in February of announcing that it will look at the increasing Voice over IP industry and report next month on whether new laws are needed to shield it. The consultation document says: “VoIP service providers have expressed concern that their ability to provide a reliable service may be impacted by internet access providers (ISPs) selectively degrading or blocking their VoIP traffic.”

Ofcom says it has no evidence this is happening in the UK; only about 000 customers use Voice over IP services. But the forecast is for that to rise by 4m in the next six months.

And VoIP blocking occurs in other countries, more often than not those where there is still only a single telecoms company. In Saudi Arabia, for instance national carrier Saudi Telecom is using software from US supplier Narus to block all Voice over IP phone calls.

Telecommunication companies in the US as well as other countries are reluctant to have their bandwidth taken up by traffic from which they earn no revenue and have been challenged over similar alleged incidents of VoIP barring. Hindering VoIP traffic is technically difficult but not illegal and barring precise kinds of internet traffic is on the increase.

The European based VoIP giant Skype who are now owned by eBay has been particularly controversial. Skype is used by 75m people. But not everyone wants Skype on their network.

Skype is considered by a lot of people to pose a potential security risk as it creates an encrypted tunnel out of the network and forms supernodes that sit on a network and connect internet telephony calls. There is considerable debate about how much bandwidth such supernodes eat up. There have been warnings that in supernode mode, Skype may even saturate a 100 Mbps line.

MRI Equipment and the Guidelines to Your Procedure

    October 1st, 2008

There’s a big difference between a CT scan and an MRI scan. It seems pretty obvious, but in an effort to diminish the amount of time you have to spend in the exam you should be aware of the magnet you’re dealing with. First of all as many people know if you wear metal during an exam will most likely appear on the screen or film as a hotspot. In an MRI exam, if you are even able to get into the machine with anything magnetic your entire exam may be compromised. Save yourself some time and listen to your tech. Otherwise it may have to be repeated.

A rather unfortunate side effect of not listening before an MRI exam is damage you may do to the equipment itself. The cost of repair including turning the magnet off and on if something in your pocket is drawn into the machine by the magnet is a tremendous bill itself. No wonder hospitals warn you to pay attention. No wonder as well that they shop around for the best prices on their new and used ultrasound and MRI equipment. In the event that someone is careless, they don’t need to pay the highest price on the market for new machines.

Increased Gaming Notebook Saturation Good for Consumers

    August 31st, 2008

The days where laptops for gaming were a niche market are disappearing very quick. As I remember they were not really the greatest selling notebooks but as they were the most costly they were the foremost revenue producing laptops. They were the type of notebook computer everyone wished for but the one they just were unable to purchase. Simply they were the best laptop computers available for purchase. I know we all got excited about them but the masses would highly unlikely buy laptop computers that were so costly. Well established manufacturers have lately introduced their own gaming notebooks so its all changing as we speak.

These laptops have a certain price point and these manufacturers know they don’t have to be price aggressively here. As the profit potential on mainstream notebooks have gotten so tiny, creating specialized laptops for gaming is one plan to regain a larger gross markup. Companies of that class know they can sway buyers to buy laptop computers at ridiculous providing they represent it well. Do the smaller players really stand a chance with this kinda competition? Now gaming portables will no longer be perceived as a niche market. I guess the ignorant automatically feel at ease by purchasing from a brand they know.

With that these systems are also perceived to be the best laptop computers already, even if they really are not. I reckon this would still be the ray of hope for smaller resellers though. Now and again the littler retailers will provide the newest components quicker and so offer higher configurations as well. Consumers that buy high performance laptop computers can generally see past the frills. The details are important for this type of buyer.

For the customer, this has plenty of benefits. Better technology will be increasingly purchasable in the future for many customers as it will act to drive margins down further. Who is to envisage what will happen. I’m actually not that sure. Technology is always advancing and the latest notebooks should usually be expensive when it just comes out. The multinational manufacturers have already entered the gaming laptop computers sector so we’ll have to be patient and see what occurs I guess.

Identify What Fast Broadband is & Enjoy Listening to Music Over the Net

    July 9th, 2008

Broadband is ultra fast speed worldwide web access, and is far speedier than super slow dial-up access over a modem. If you are viewing this guide then you are maybe thinking at purchasing worldwide web access for the very first time, or wanting to increase the speed to broadband.

The perk of broadband is you are able to watch telly over the internet, this has became very popular with E4 launching their new software which will allow surfers to view the most recent shows of Family Guy. With fast internet access users might often also download music and movies at a much greater speed than dial-up access.

High speed broadband is effortless to set up. The 1 st thing you yourself will need to do is sign up with an ISP, also known as an Internet Service Provider, & the broadband corporation will supply surfers with a high speed connection through your telephone connection. If surfers currently have a broadband provider then make sure you try an internet provider comparison service for impartial advice on the greatest broadband deals. Users can quickly observe the best deals with a broadband comparison site by simply entering in your city and then the website will return a list of provider packages in your location. Browsers will be under no pressure to sign up with any internet while users look through the provider deals.

Once surfers have signed up with your ISP the corporation will probably supply a date for turning on the connection and supply users with any necessary wireless routers & internet software. The routers and software might often come with step by step instructions & the majority of ISP’s may offer users IT guidance if needed.

Once you have successfully connected to the worldwide web people will probably start to rejoice in the quick speeds of broadband. If users are going to download music, telly shows such as Friends or scary movies please be wary of any download limits surfers may have on your package. Dance music and telly downloads such as Hollyoaks can often take up most of your ‘download allocation’ as the internet business are enormous in file size. Find the best broadband package by using Compare Broadband UK.

    Robots to Replace Obnoxious Rent-A-Cops

    June 12th, 2008

Rent-A-Cop Robot About to Outsource the Wal-Mart Security Guard? Pfizer has a cool new robotic security guard, which could have quite a few uses. For instance this robot:

    http://www.activrobots.com/ROBOTS/p2dx.html

Now then imagine the Wal-Mart parking lot security guard coming up to you and saying: “You have been caught on film, you are parked in a Handicap Zone, please move other wise this data which has already been sent will not be deleted and you will receive a ticket for $250.00 against your license plate and you will not be able to renew your plates without payment of this fine.”…”This is a warning of such violation”…”You have three minutes to comply” and then it simply drives over to the red one to alert another customer that they are in a red zone. Or a kid doing donuts in the parking lot that he needs to leave the premises at once. Or another man loitering and perhaps ready to do a drug deal and simply advise them your license number and picture has been sent to the main data bank for possible police intervention. It could also be used to patrol the borders with a machine gun on top of it?

    http://www.activrobots.com/ROBOTS/p2at.html

and Don’t laugh these could be in Iraq soon?

    http://www.sandia.gov/isrc/SARGE.html

By outsourcing jobs to robots instead of overseas we can prevent problems of workers who do not seem to wish to do their jobs correctly. Also it is hard to sue a robot since it will not attempt to catch the culprit, already has them on tape. The data or tape already sent and even disabling the robot will not do any good, since the data has been sent already. With an 850 MHz on board processor and built in communication system once it takes the picture you are toast. Pfizer is not the only company using them to patrol boarders of facilities, soon you will see them everywhere. Technology will some day eliminate crime, perhaps war as well as some Futurists predict now. Lots of cool technology going on these days; We have been studying robotics believing that within two decades you can get a robot that will amongst other things wash your car too. How about the cars which drive themselves and/or you for your errands like in the movie; “Minority Report” Robotics have come a long way, from building cars to doing menial tasks and now for doing very risky tasks such as finding land mines. Which we believe is very important or how about deactivating bombs for the bomb squads?

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/robots/hazard/

We have lots of thoughts on mankind’s most important uses of technologies. All Industries should be collaborating and sharing data in my Opinion? So then how long will it be until mankind makes robots to do all of our remedial tasks and protect our infrastructures and people. The answer is a lot sooner than you think.

Notebook Computers Give the Best Versatility For PC Games

    April 23rd, 2008

The last 12 months has seen a lot of attention thrown towards the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii but a lot of excitement has been seen in new PC games like Crysis and the like. Basically whatever happens the Personal Computer will always be a large games platform.

Despite the efforts of some, gaming PC’s are usually thought of as being big, ugly, loud, expensive and they are usually put in the corner of the bedroom. Consumers have driven up laptop sales in the past two years. Laptop Computer sales now account for around 50 percent of PC’s shipped. Despite the fact that that the majority of users don’t need mobility or even a laptop there is something about being able to move a laptop computer from place to place and being cable free that we all find is a must have part of our lifestyle. The only complaint for game lovers was that the majority laptops were utterly useless for playing games. Any laptop marketed for playing games on was also big, ugly, loud and just expensive. A lot has changed…

First the Core Duo processors started equalling the speed of Desktop processors. Intel have done a super job marketing centrino and being the market leader but AMD has pushed them enough to excel in the notebook sector. Another contributor that has really been making gaming laptops a reality is Nvidia. The future is looking bright. In 2008 Intel will release the quad core laptop processor. Nvidia will release the Geforce 9 series after having success with the eight series.

There Is A Laptop Computer Brand That Seems To Be Catching Attention In The High Performance Laptops Segment

    April 19th, 2008

Rizeon (www.rizeon.com/laptops/) in the UK seem to be getting some positive reviews on the internet yet I had never even heard of them until searching through the laptop forums. Their whole laptop range seems to be focused on the high end of the performance bar, featuring Intel Centrino Technology and targeted towards speed freaks and the gaming community.

Purchasing a Rizeon laptop is not cheap. As they are all performance focused the starting prices are usually £600 up but after comparing some other laptops I think it’s fair to say they are some of the best value laptops around. Spec for spec they usually work out cheaper and they don’t even skimp on the quality of parts. According to their site they include brands like Seagate, Hitachi, Kingston, Corsair and Intel. They do pride themselves on providing reliable and high quality laptops.

Their site is rather easy to use and it’s good to see the large range of upgrade options on offer. I always prefer custom laptops because the mass market laptops you find in retail stores just lack performance components. Their current range varies from 13.3inch up to 17inch systems with the latter being primarily positioned as a gaming laptop because it features the Nvidia 8800m GTX video chip, the fastest available today.

I must say I’m very impressed on first glance. It’s good to see that you can buy very high specification laptop computers without having to pay an arm and leg like when purchasing from the larger manufacturers. Sure there are other companies doing similar things but they seem to be targeting other markets or trying to battle with the big players in the industry which is usually a losing battle. You do get a lot of value for your money with when buying Rizeon laptops so I’d recommend checking them out.

    Wine Rack Kits and Plans

    April 4th, 2008

Properly storing wine keeps flavor and lets wine age so that you can taste its evolving, complex flavor. Buying a wine rack, however, can be pricey, especially for someone who is more interested in developing a robust wine collection, not decorating.

Before you begin construction, plan where you will put the wine rack. Storing the wine in the right environment is crucial to its flavor. Always store wine in a cool, dark, and slightly humid area. Never store wine in the sun or in the heat. It will cook the wine and ruin its flavor. Keep the temperature between 50 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Store the wine on its side so it keeps the cork moist.

Wine rack kits let you grow your wine collection piece by piece. Wall-mounted wine racks let you store nine to 36 bottles on one shelf. Wall-mounted metal wine racks make it easy to see the label of each bottle. Expect to pay between $50 and $100 for each shelf. Don’t be afraid to ask the retailer for a discount if you buy many shelves at once. You can also buy matching wine islands so that you can store wine and have a tabletop in your wine cellar. Look online for the best selection.

Build your own wine rack for the lowest cost. Free plans are on the Internet, and you’ll probably need at least a table saw or jigsaw, a sander, and drill press. For simple projects, you can expect to pay less than $10 for equipment.

Probably the cheapest, but most effective wine rack you can build uses brick and wood planks. Stack the bricks for height, and use wooden planks with smaller wooden dividers for an easy-to-make wine rack.
