MRI Equipment and the Guidelines to Your Procedure

    October 1st, 2008

There’s a big difference between a CT scan and an MRI scan. It seems pretty obvious, but in an effort to diminish the amount of time you have to spend in the exam you should be aware of the magnet you’re dealing with. First of all as many people know if you wear metal during an exam will most likely appear on the screen or film as a hotspot. In an MRI exam, if you are even able to get into the machine with anything magnetic your entire exam may be compromised. Save yourself some time and listen to your tech. Otherwise it may have to be repeated.

A rather unfortunate side effect of not listening before an MRI exam is damage you may do to the equipment itself. The cost of repair including turning the magnet off and on if something in your pocket is drawn into the machine by the magnet is a tremendous bill itself. No wonder hospitals warn you to pay attention. No wonder as well that they shop around for the best prices on their new and used ultrasound and MRI equipment. In the event that someone is careless, they don’t need to pay the highest price on the market for new machines.
