Introducing Wifi Cell Phones
Wifi stands for Wireless Fiderity. It is owned by Wifi Alliance that specifically defines it as a brand of wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies defined by the IEEE 802.11 group of standards. It is a cellular telephone with an automatic ability to switch between Wifi VOIP and conventional cellular modes. These cell phones are designed to prevent drop out phenomenon that occurs when a cell phone set is unable to maintain reliable contact with a repeater which is affected by the Wifi LAN. Drop-out is a problem commonly experienced in urban centers and in concrete-and-steel buildings.
Wifi cell phone set takes advantage of VOIP technology to maintain the call without drop out. If the building has a Wifi access the call is handed off from the conventional cellular network to the Wifi LAN. Most personal computer operating systems, laptops, printers, game consoles, smart phones, PC, MP3 players, PDA and other peripherals support Wifi and, therefore, connect to the internet when within wireless network rang which is connected to the internet.
When the coverage is of one or more interconnected access points, it is referred to as a hotspot. Some of the Wifi enabled cell phones include: blackberry, Sony Ericsson XPERIA 3.2 MP camera phone, Nokia N81, Nokia N97, Pharaohs PTL619 traveler smart phone, Motorola MC 35, Nokia E71 among many others. Cell phones with Wifi are more efficient, speedy in connection and cheap in operation. One can access internet anytime as long as one is within the wireless range.
