Top 10 Companies That Offer Baby Freebies!

    March 30th, 2009

By the time you find out you’re pregnant (pregnancy test $15) to the time junior blows out the candles on his first birthday cake (cake $20), parents can expect to spend upwards of $18,000. And that’s on baby’s first year alone. By the time junior reaches 18, the average middle-income family will spend $160,140, according to recent government calculations. That doesn’t even touch college tuition. Ouch!

Children are priceless, but raising them is probably the most expensive thing a parent will ever do.

But there’s good news. One of the few times companies are eager to hand out free things is when someone is having a baby!

When author, Sue Hannah found out that she was expecting twins, she couldn’t wait for their arrival. But feeling the financial strain that goes along with being a new parent (times two), she was definitely a little nervous.

Desperate to find extra help for her expanding family, she contacted almost every company that manufactured baby items. She scoured through parenting magazines, searched the Internet and made phone calls until her husband thought she was suffering a pregnancy-induced craze. He claimed she couldn’t get something for nothing. Boy, was he wrong!

She was surprised to find out that many companies offered free stuff to new and expecting parents–and with no obligation to buy anything! She received hundreds of dollars worth of fabulous freebies for herself and her babies, including free diapers, baby wipes, baby food, baby bibs, bottles, free gift packs, parenting starter kits, free parenting videos and software, coupons, parenting books and magazines, and tons of free samples in the mail, all from well-known companies like Huggies, Gerber, Heinz, Nestlé Carnation, Johnson & Johnson, and many more.

“It was really exciting to receive free stuff in the mail”, says Hannah. “These companies were eager to respond to my requests for free samples and promotional items and within a couple of weeks of contacting them, my mailbox was flooded with valuable free stuff–and with no obligation to buy anything! I could hardly wait to see what my mailman brought me in the mail each day! I filled up three large storage bins with free stuff for my twins, and saved a ton of money!”

After receiving a flood of free stuff in the mail, Hannah decided to compile her contacts and listings into an awesome book, Free Stuff For Baby!, consisting of toll-free numbers that parents could call to request free stuff, company addresses where parents could write to request free stuff, as well as Internet websites where parents could register online to request free stuff for themselves and their baby. And what a success that book has been! Hannah has recently appeared on several television programs promoting her new book, including, “Northwest Afternoon” (KomoTV/Seattle), “Your Morning” (Comcast), “Canada AM”, “Breakfast Television”, to name a few. Her articles have appeared in tons of parenting magazines, including “Fit Pregnancy”, “Today’s Parent”, “Work & Family”, and many more!

For those “new or expecting” parents who are reading this article today, Hannah has offered to give you a sneak preview of her new book, “Free Stuff For Baby!”, in the form of an awesome, 101-page e-book called “The Best of Baby Freebies”, that contains hundreds of listings of companies that offer free stuff to new and expecting parents in the U.S. and Canada….FREE!! Details are available at the website. www.Free-Baby-Samples.com

Hannah’s final words of advice: “Join as many mailing lists as you can to take advantage of what these companies have to offer. Enjoy your baby. Cherish every moment!”

Note: When contacting these companies, ask to be put on their mailing list to receive free promotional items for new and expecting parents. If you are expecting multiples, be sure to mention that in your correspondence with them.

Baby and Toddler - Develop Skills in Your Toddler

    March 29th, 2009

Understanding who your child is, is essential for promoting healthy development. If you know what their strengths are and know where they need support, then you are on the right track for your 2-3 year olds’ development.

When children are two years old they can usually speak between 200-250 words. When they are three, they can put two sentences together containing three or four words. Even with all of this vocabulary, toddlers still have a hard time expressing their emotions. This can leave them very frustrated and powerless. There are a couple things you can do to help. Having conversations with your child will help boost their language skills and makes them feel important. Try to find out what your child likes to talk about and engage them in a conversation. Also read to them as much as possible. By letting your two year old know that you understand the frustration they are experiencing will help calm them down and will make it much easier for them to tackle the challenge. Figure out how your child handles their difficult feelings and situations. This will help you to calm them down and show them the right way to handle their emotions.

Playtime is very important for your two year old child. It will build in all areas of their development. When they play, they interact more with friends, they use pretend play to help understand things in a more complex way and they learn important concepts like big and small and up and down. Try to get more involved in their pretend play. Note what they like to pretend to do and join the fun. When you do this it will help build a strong connection between the two of you and it can help encourage creativity.

Making plans for your child to spend time with other children will give them the pleasure in making new friends. The more time they get spending with other children the more they learn to get along with each other. It is a good social skill to build on. As many of you know, two year olds are very active, with their constant running, jumping and climbing. These motor skills allow them the freedom to explore in new ways. Try to spend as much time outside as you can. There will be plenty of room to run and jump safely. Taking them to a park to play with other children is great. Get your child involved in family sports like swimming and soccer on the lawn. They will benefit a lot from it and let’s not forget the benefits of nap time!! Go on walks with them and take time to discuss what they see. Compare things like houses and cars, it will help teach concepts of big and small. They will get a chance to explore other things that they see. If you can’t go outside due to weather then create a safe place in your home that they can prowl around and explore different stations you create.

These few steps will help your two year old develop the skills for a bright imagination and prepare them socially. They will also learn to express themselves better and reduce the frustrations for both of you.

Yes, You Need To Write Them! Help With Baby Shower Gift Thank You Note Wording

    March 28th, 2009

You are seven months pregnant and your best friend has given you a special, thoughtful, creative baby shower. As you sit and admire all of the wonderful gifts you received, you suddenly realize that you have 29 baby shower gift thank you notes to write. As you rub your tired feet and breathe through another Braxton Hicks contraction, you wonder if you have the energy to write that many thank you notes for your baby shower.

While it still might take some time, here are some helpful hints to make this note writing process a bit easier. If the baby shower is not a surprise, you can plan ahead. Find some cute thank you cards or note cards before the event. Many cute options are online or you can find a nice variety at your local card store. Ask the hostess for a list of the guests and address the envelopes before the baby shower. If you are feeling creative, you can write a short poem to include in each thank you note. Remember, while most people like clever poems, you still need to write a personal note to each guest after the party.

At the baby shower, make sure that the hostess or another friend keeps track of the gifts you receive. When the time arrives to write the thank you notes, you will have a detailed list of the presents which will make it easier to write the notes. Remember, the most important part of a thank you note is to make it personal. I remember getting a thank you note once and all it said was “Thank you for the thoughtful gift.” I wasn’t even sure if they knew what I gave them! We all love when someone takes the time to write a personal line or two about the gift we spent time and money trying to find. Even if the gift is not your favorite, you can still be personal and still show gratitude. One example might be, “Thank you so much for coming to my shower. It was so great to see you and I really appreciated that you took the time to be a part of the celebration. Thank you so much for the _____________________. I know it will be useful when the baby arrives. I love the colors that you chose. Thank you again. I hope that we can get together after the baby arrives and catch up.”

Be sure to write a thoughtful note to your hostess as well. She spent a lot of time preparing a special day for you and the least you can do is write her a kind, personal note. You might even want to get her a little gift to go along with the note.

Don’t worry about writing two page notes or finding the most adorable card on the market. What really matters when writing a baby shower gift thank you note is that you take the time to write a personal note to the friend who took the time to share a special gift with you at the shower.

Secrets of Creating Instant Rapport with Anyone, Part 2 - The Magic of VAK

    March 26th, 2009

In Part 1, we looked at ways to mirror and match the actions of other people. This time, we will examine sense modalities and show how you can use them to create Instant Rapport.

Most of us are blessed with five senses, which we use to receive information from the world around us. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), among other things, studies the relationship between language and brain function.

NLP has determined that some people are primarily visually oriented (V). Others are more auditory (A). And some are more in touch with their physical feelings and emotions, or what is termed kinesthetic (K). From this, we get the term VAK.

    USING VAK

You can tell which sensory mode someone prefers to use by listening the words they say.

Visuals think in pictures and the language they use reflects that. They might say, “I see what you mean,”" I get the picture” or “That looks good to me.” In a sales presentation, a Visual prospect might say,” Show me what you’ve got.”

An Auditory might say, “That sounds good,” “I hear what you’re saying” or “That rings true.” During a staff meeting, an Auditory might say,” “Let me hear your idea.”

A Kinesthetic will “Want to get a handle on something,” “Try it on for size” or “Have a gut feeling.” If your are making a proposal to a Kinesthetic, he or she might say, “Lay it on me.”

The key then, to creating Instant Rapport with each of these types is to use language that they can understand and relate to. To do otherwise would be like going to Germany and refusing to speak German, even though you know the language.

If you say to an Auditory, “Do you see what I mean?” they won’t. But if you ask, “Do you hear what I’m saying?” they probably will. Not only that, they’re more likely to agree with you because you are speaking their language.

And when you speak their language, you create rapport.

    VAK IN BUSINESS AND SALES.

In a sales situation, or any other time that you are trying to convince someone to do something, present your pitch or idea in a way that is most compatible with the way someone’s brain works.

Visual people want to see pictures of the product or, if possible, the product itself. They find graphs and charts more convincing than the words you say.

An Auditory will prefer to hear what you have to say and will note how you say it. Do you speak with an air of confidence and authority, or does your voice betray uncertainty, fear or deception?

A Kinesthetic will want to touch the product or hold the brochure or chart. Let them do this. If you need to point out something on the product or brochure, don’t take it away from them. Have a second one for yourself.

When using VAK, keep in mind that almost nobody uses any one sense modality to the exclusion of others. There is usually a mix. Also, the primary modality may change, depending on the situation. So always listen for the verbal cues to determine which sensory mode is dominant at the moment and adjust your language accordingly.

Even so, there is usually one sense in particular that someone prefers to the others. Once you discover what it is, and use that knowledge wisely, you have one more key to Instant Rapport.

And once you have rapport, getting what you want becomes that much easier.

    College Scholarships for Southpaws

    March 22nd, 2009

Searching for alternative avenues like school scholarships to help pay for a university education is challenging and intimidating. Scholarships are not the same as a normal student loan because the cash is a grant, and so, repayment isn’t necessary. While searching methods of funding your university instruction, remember that funding is accessible at truly unlikely places, such as scholarships specially for left handed students.

    Financial Assistance for Lefthanders

A left-handed scholarship may initially look a bit unusual, however it’s worth looking at these facts: Bill Gates is left handed, as is President Obama. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Paul McCartney also were also lefties. Statistics propose up to 11% of the population are lefties. Often believed to be much more artistic and to have a higher IQ, left-handers have frequently suffered from discrimination in the past. Stigmatization is now a thing of the past, lefties are no longer thought of as odd, as a matter of fact they may even be linked with the great individuals named previously. There are numerous grants available for left handed scholars if you look around. The Beckley Scholarship for up to $1000$1k is available at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. Awarded to scholars of Juniata College and it was established in the late seventies, this particular fund aids many students in their quest for advanced education. Some bursaries do have prerequisites or limitations. Sometimes particular grades may be asked for or certain monetary guidelines have to be met. Do go for for the maximum number of scholarships possible to step-up your chances of finishing with a negligible amount of debt. Societies, groups related to hobbies and even local organisations may be a source of scholarships. Southpaw programs are just an illustration; funding is accessible in other cases such as the people from military homes or if you are disabled.

Searching out scholarships can be time-consuming, all the same the rewards may potentially be huge. Utilized in conjunction with regular lending, they can reduce the student debt which a college degree can generate. Be really thorough in exploring all opportunities. Left-handed grants are only one of many options - make a list of all your clubs and societies and don’t forget to utilize your imagination. If you think you may be suitable, then go for it, you will keep any costs minimal, additionally you will most probably be facing a better economic outlook when you leave school.
